 :-/ Hi,

I am putting a HR disc front end in my FC & while at it want to check out the idea of adding a 3/4 speed syncro box behind the Grey motor. It has been rebuilt so I still want to use it for now, & add/swap to a red Mtr later when I can be bothered to go through the engineering dramas & cost we have in the ACT.
What do I need to do so I can add the later model box behind the grey, ie what is the clutch/pressure plate setup. I have already checked out the info about keeping the bench seat & moving the shifter forward.

Any help would be appriciated.

Hi Classic.
Welcome to the board.
I have not put a different box behind a grey, but here are some things to think about.
The motor / box mounts are on the crash box bellhousing, so changing the box will require an adapter for mounting. I have seen plates that bolt between the box and motor for this. I would think that a grey pressure plate and a clutch suitable to the new box would have to be combined. I would use the rear mount on the box also, you would need it in the future anyway.
I have heard of people using 3 or 4 spd Holden synchro boxes, and also Opel (came out in HR and Monaro) Datsun 4 spd, Celica 5 spd. Check out someone like Dellows, he could provide all the bits for any box.
You would also need a mount for the FC clutch slave cylinder. (another Dellow item)
Hope that helps. I'm sure someone on this board has done this conversion before.
Regards
Alex

Thanks for the offer I will send you a email. Its great to have access to helpful/dedicated car lovers such as this group are. I have the fridge sorted & trained the other half, after 20 odd years of cars/projects so its sweet. I use to have chevs untill the dollar blew out so have returned to my roots.
