Hi

Just wanted opinions. If I have a rear qtr panel on a sedan that needs a replacement section below the ridge and the back lower box inner section is rusted completely, then my instinct is to go crazy and cut it all out, without drilling/teking the old spots out and just custom make a new section myself. BUT, is there any merit in trying to replicate the whole original thing by plug welding as like a floor or should I do it the way I want. Ill do both sides. This is a car that has new floor and sills and they arent NOS. Any thought would be appreciated as I dont think it matters as the original construction looks to be very average quality  Sad

Yeah I'm with you ,I would make cardboard patterns as I cut it all out then replace it all. I'm totally self taught and mostly use a mig and it prefers clean steal and find myself sometimes cutting body away just to get to the area that needs replacing. Good luck.
