Wondering if anyone has a description/photo of the radio they know was (or could have been) original.
There's a vast range on sale out there with claims of being typical FE FC.
From what I read the old basic AWA 6 (transistor) was probably a very common unit installed in the 58-59 Sydney builds.
I would like to use an authentic radio case & fascia at least - and perhaps replace the circuitry with with component capable of receiving today's range of transmissions.
Any comments or tips from experience would be most welcome.

Thanks you very much for the detail. I did see one similar to your AWA on eBay but there is no chrome fascia plate with it.
I expect finding a fascia that suits the FE FC speaker grill could be the real challenge.

If you are a member of the forum then you can see all the correct radios in the accessory of the week section

Just to clarify what Ken said, there is a members-only area of the forum, but you have to be a member of one the clubs that pays for this site. If you can see the Board labelled "Accessory of the Week", the radios are in there.

There are also some images and basic details of the NASCO "Air Chief" range here.

Thanks RET for the link & the clarity. Have met a few from the local club but it'll be mid/late next year before I have a car ready to actively participate.

join the NSW club Pete, You could join the Vic club as well, but Sydney is closer and they are a great bunch of guys (just like the Vic club).
This site is run by the clubs and without the clubs this would all be gone!!!

You don't have to have a car on the road to be a member/participate. I reckon $40 to belong to a club can be the best investment you make in a car project. It's a hell of a lot cheaper to learn from other people's experience than your own. Just my 2c.

cheers
