Engineer certificate

I was wondering what it takes to get an engineer certificate. Obviously i need to see an engineer, but i've heard nothing but bad things involving repeated visits to them and high costs. Is it actually hard/expensive to get the engineer certificate? I've got a 173 and disc brake front end in my FC station wagon.

Chris Most of the stories you've heard can be backed up, but I've been lucky enough to find a reasonable engineer who uses a lot of logic as well as his regs. book. Many but not all engineers are over the top cautious when dealing with modifications to older cars, but it depends which state you're in. Where are you & do you have an email address?

I needed an eng cert for a HR with 5 spd & discs.My experience was all good but the installation was also 1st class-Hadfield kit installed by Hadfield.If you expect problems maybe the installation is not quite right?

The rules vary wildly from state to state, so it matters a lot where you are.  If you are in Sydney, then I have used and happily recommend Lohning Brothers International (who are in the Mortdale/Peakhurst area).  One of their engineers is John Varetimidis, who writes the engineer's reports in Street Machine magazine's "Expression Session" column.  A number of our club's members (at least four that I can think of, including myself) have been to them and I have not heard of anyone being asked to do anything ridiculous.  Happy to recommend them.
