Your right Pete they are not thumbprint, unusual type i personally have not seen them before. FE are stainless and FC are pressed tin chromed, all were finished in red and black centre's.  The red ones with the Holden lion in the middle are EK as FB look the same but don't have the embossed lion in the centre and no colour.
cheers

FE - stainless hubcap, cam and lion, red centre
FC - chrome steel hubcap, cam and lion, red centre
FB - chrome steel hub cap, no lion, no colour
EK - chrome steel hubcap, lion in centre, red paint

FE FC trim ring - stainless steel, concave profile about 25 mm wide, 12 bronze clips pressed onto rim
Very late FC FB EK - stainless steel, thumbprint, retained behind hubcap

Aftermarket trim rings were plentiful and are mostly aluminium with lots of different patterns, they are retained behind the hubcap except for some full cover stainless variants which clipped to the rim.
Also available were fake wire wheel trims which clipped to the rim over original hubcaps. These are very nice but quite rare - accessory of the week has most of these pictured.

Thanks collecta and everyone, being for an fb ek will these fit the ej wheels with hr disk wheels on front and what sort of value are these for $400? Sounds expensive for trims needing repair but market dictates price I suppose

I could be corrected here, but I think they will fit EJ rims ok but not HR because of the difference in offset.
I think they are overpriced for the amount of damage on them. I've recently seen a really nice set of these at a swap for the same money.

Thanks ken. I appreciate the extra detail given, cos some of us were only kids in the ,80s when some were getting around in original kit.
