The wagon has suddenly started to suck exhaust fumes into cabin (was fine a week ago, now it's hard to breath)
rebuilt and new rubbers fitted last year
new exhaust system fitted in Feb this year
visually everything looks OK

I'm guessing the fumes are coming in the tailgate

is there an easy way of checking for leaks Huh

One way to pick up the leak is to give the car a thorough wash (especially the door jambs and tailgate edges), then take a drive down a dry dirt road. The dust will track in, and you should be able to see the path where it is sneaking past the rubbers.
