Well I am getting like you, except I don't have the same time frames, BUT, I have decided to build the FE 'HOW I WANT IT' and I don't care about what the engineer will think either (sort of), I will worry about that when and if I have to. I am trying to get into the old spirit of the 70's rebel hot-rodder and just build the bloody thing. All of this crap and regulation really got to me. I feel liberated now, dunno why, but all the blokes at the hot rod club have done it this way and it all turns out in the end, as long as the quality is right.

Ok todays effort
My question is how many are running  thermos on the front ?
They are stepped off the core 15mm ?
I have ran a 16 inch single before without any dramas i know they are more effiecent on the rear but they will be mounted on the drawn bracket at the bottom that will be welded to the radiator frame.
Im getting the lower spout moved up like a VK core.
should have just used a VK radiator. But i had this VL 5 litre one in the shed.

Everything fit sweet as and i have hidden the radiator which is what i wanted to achieve.

My question is how many are running  thermos on the front ?

I'm running a 10" and a 12" on the back of the radiator so no gilmer drive for me Cry. Have to spread em wide too as the water pump would fowl on the fan. Only room I have in front of the radiator will be for the Air con condenser and the receiver drier.

Ah the joys of not having luxurys.

The way i see it fan shrouds caust lack of natural flow when driving causing the fan to come on more than normal and the flow lost with a air con condensor i think i should be right.
I think if you run HQ water pump and pulleys you will gain nearlly 20mm.

Pete, I tried a few configurations and in my case twin 10 inch thermos on the front were not sufficient.

In the end a shrouded engine fan was perfect, with twin thermos on the front that would kick in at certain temp.  I wired them in to the ECU to come on as if AC was on.. so there was a temp set point and at certain speeds.

with that set up it could idle through Sydney CBD during peak summer without the needle on the temp gauge moving... a hi flow Milodon thermostat was also installed.

the rad was a 4 row, cut down to fit under the bonnet latch panel with torana tanks.

I ran what I think is a 16 inch thermo fan on the front (covered all of the radiator), I didn't think it was enough because the car kept over heating in traffic. I finished up installing an engine fan which made a huge difference and it was running within the temperature range but would occasionally still spit out a bit of coolant. A bit of mucking around but I finally worked out that the thermo was cutting in very late in the heat range, so I just hard wired it and it runs all the time at the moment ( a bit noisy) but still on the hottest of days can loose a bit of coolant.
My next job is to pull the radiator out and convert it to a recovery system, install a new thermo fan and to put a shroud on the engine fan / radiator, hopefully this ticks all the boxes and there will be no more issues.

I bought a Haltech 1000 series computer so it has all the out puts for fans ect so ill set it too cut in at a happy medium.

Was your fan hard on the radiator or stepped off ?

Finished modifying the original radiator support bracket.
Took the radiator in to get modified.
If I do something every day it will get done.

Merry Christmas to me or birthday whatever the occasion.
Computer arrived today
So did my heater pretty little thing 2 speed twin blower made in france for a change and a gates heater tap.
Im using a EH heater control






Gearbox arrived back today heavy duty bands, alloy pan, corvette servo and pin, manulised, cant wait to get this thing running..
