I didn't realise you were allowed to make up new body tags?I found my body number actually became more pronounced after I painted it although it was sand blasted first.Jamie.

Its not like I have re birthed it mine was extremelly faint hence why I have done it.
I tigged it in today so you wouldnt even know.
but I will tack the old one under the dash for reasurance.

A few years ago at Toowoomba swap there was a guy selling ID tags by the hundreds . I asked him if it was legal to sell them and if he had any blank ones as the Vauxhall one is identical to the early Holden and mine has been mongrelled . I normally leave them soak in thinners for a few days and they come up like new .Haydn

Exactly my thoughts JB. I did this with one of my cars. The front subframe had been smashed and was pretty much beyond repair when rust issues were added to the calculation.  So to keep the car numbers original I cut the original subframe number out and welded it back into the replacement subframe.
I can't see any issue with this at all.

Also I can't see a problem selling old ID tags either, these are not even used for vehicle identification, more for in-house factory coding purposes.
Selling a subframe could be construed as more of an issue than selling a tag as the subframe contains a vehicle identity. No one that I've ever heard of has had a problem selling a subframe.

Buying and Selling number plates could be an issue. Not much of a problem if its just to hang on the wall. But if I was buying a set of number plates to actually use on a car (ie an old pair of black and whites) so that I could then buy that number plate as a personalised plate, and then be able to use the original old steel plates rather than the new aluminium ones then you would need to make sure they weren't stolen for instance.

An x-ray will show the chassis number has been welded in.

Another scenario .......... Someone steels your $30,000 fully restored FC, obtains an old rusted out paddock find, the type you see in pics here all the time, and swaps over the tags and welds in the chassis number into your stolen car, and re-registers it as a newly restored car. 

Vic Roads (and other authorities) have to have some way of knowing what is stolen and what is not.

When I registered my Ute, I had no way of proving it was not stolen so Vic Roads simply accepted a signed Stat Declaration from me ...... too easy!!!

Last week i put my FE ute through an identity check as i purchased it from Vic, at our inspection station at regency park and the only numbers that were relevant to them was the engine number and chassis number (near the battery) not the ID plate on the fire wall.

But unfortunately they are to easy to rebirth.

Wasn't having a go .Chassis or body numbers are easy to change ,the x-ray wont work if you heat it up enough first ,then stamp your new numbers on before it cools . Be sure to destroy the donor set . My panel van has a sedan front clip [so sedan chassis no.] .Asked about old number plates as I have a few sets in my shed . When I put my van on club rego here in Qld ,rather than going special interest plates which have a s- prefix I opted for buying my old plates [much cheaper than P.P.]. The next question was if I could get the old plates off my shelf reprinted and use them and yes you can . You know that they are not already in circulation so you just ask for them as P.P Down the track I will do this as I still have the one surviving plate from the van that wasn't destroyed in the accident .

Unfortunately Guys this seems to be the only way we can sometimes bring our cars back to life the only issue is what has already been said about rebirthing.

I am not sure that my FC Sedans subchassis is original and the EK Ute project that I picked up recently did not come with a plate or a subchassis so I have had to obtain both which will make the ute whatever I decide I currently have an EK plate and subchassis and an FB of both it will probably depend on which is the better and then again the subchassis and plates are also from different cars.

As I said sometimes it is the only way.

The wifes going to QLD all next week with the kids and im not invited so wooohooo pub dinners and shed time all week should have it ready for blasting next weekend.
I have to get the EK van ready for the mud run so fuel cell lock the diff and front brakes that will take 1 day.

All the front subframe and grille shell and other bits were blasted and went to the painter yesterday and were undercoated.

Im also doing up full grille bolt kits in stainless steel for my car if anyone is after a set let me know they are socket head cap screws in stainless.

I doubt any bolt mob would beat my prices.

Weekend off the ute for the Best weekend I have had in yrs at webbys mud run
The old farm fresh EK that sat for 30yrs covered in crap moss rust ran like a swiss watch no smoke just revved like you would not believe cant believe how good it was.
