I replaced both the slave and master clutch cylinders , bleed the system, tested it (went around the block several times) and everything worked fine.

Then I said to to the Mrs ""come on lets go and get an icecream"" - I convinced her to go in the ute I'd just repaired?

Well 500 meters up the road the clutch pedal went straight to floor and the piston in the slave cylinder has almost popped out and all the fluid drained out!

Needless to say the Mrs stormed off muttering something about  - "I knew I shouldn't have got into that bloody thing" (haven't seen her since).

Any clues to what I have done wrong with the clutch? (please no advise on how to calm the Mrs down)

All those years of adjusting up the rod under the dash. Back the rod off a bit so you dont have so much travel.

Its a good problem to have as everyone struggles to bleed the bloody things normally .

If you sort your MRS out let me know ? i have 6 old cars and she thinks all old cars drive like billy carts and wont get in. not that it worries me that much like a bit of time to myself,

G'day Wasim,
A couple of things to check are as follows:-
Is it a clutch master cylinder that was fitted?
If it has a brake master cylinder fitted it could possibly cause this problem.
Check that there is some freeplay on the clutch pedal rod.
Also check the flexible clutch hose is free of obstructions.Old hoses can swell up internally.

Thanks everyone - you have given me a couple of items to check.

The Mrs started talking again a few moments ago - bacon and eggs in bed for breakfast tomorrow should see 'normal 'relations restored?

This happened to me a few decades ago .Sounds like you have a brake master. if so ,pop its guts out and remove a bowler hat shaped valve above the spring .This will make it the same as the correct master usually identified clutch or disc brake.The valve is for drum brakes only and restricts a small amount of pressure to hold drum brake shoes out close to the drum.Hope this helps.

After some more mucking around - I replaced the clutch hose (should have done it in the first place) on old one was worn from rubbing. Clutch is mechansim is now spot on.
