tried to start grey motor today.
power to the points.
new coil no spark,removed coil lead to see if there was nothing.
motor turning over ok...
any ideas. Undecided

Check that the rotor button is turning when the engine is cranked, this will eliminate either a broken, timing gear, distributor drive or rotor button, also check that the rotor to coil lead connection in the inside middle of the distributor cap is in place and serviceable.  If all that appears fine it may be a condenser issue.

no,motor has not been running for a while.
everything is turning over ok,no bumps or rattles...
oil light goes straight out...

First things first
1. Check when ing. is on you have 12v at coil (+)
If not why, is the line resisted or faulty coil should be 12v non resisted (gt40 or equilvent)
2. Remove dizzy cap a check (-) at points turning motor by hand from fan(make sure ing. is off)
Whilst doing this it will confirm that points, timing gears still turn and dizzy turns
3. With dizzy cap off put spark plug into coil lead and crank
If plug sparks coil and points are fine
4. Refit dizzy cap and rotor and remove all leads and check 1 by 1 the same way on each lead
If more then 1 are no good replace rotor and cap 1 lead is faulty
5. Do same check as 4 but with each plug on a different lead.
This will confirm plugs ok

If all of these turn out to be ok
Check fuel age and mixture
