Looking at a ground up resto, ( - motor and box as cost doesnt allow) the body I have is mint and was part restored about 4 years ago due to requiring new balies channels, floor is emack (not sure under rails through) and boot is good also,

But the paint job looks to be backyard as no trim was removed, jams not painted and what was removed has been glued back on. But all in all it still turns heads were ever I take it.

Them main resion for blasting is to remove the sound deadner in doors boot and bonnet and reduce labor in striping god knows how man layers of paint.

And as I want it done in a short time frame,

Hi just my 2 bobs. Perhaps with what it sounds like you want to achieve you ought to go a little cautious and consider doing some areas by hand with a stripping device. You may unearth more than you bargain for. If the paint and surface is sound then consider what you really want out of the project first.

I used Carstrip for difficult areas like this. Very happy with the results. This was a few years ago.

Ok this sounded like me 9 months ago  Cheesy Don't get carried away like I have. Do you know what sort of paint you are going to use? That might determine a few things. Also, if you think it was a bit backyard before, chances are the repairs were done with filler, so I suppose that's why I asked what paint and suggested rubbing back what you have liberally and see how much fillers etc you come across first, which is quite quick to do with coarse speed file etc, but soda type blasting shouldn't take off too much, but would make a bit of a mess and some of those techniques can cause other issues if they are not cleaned off very well after. I am not sure if weeks will be realistic if you want to improve on the job. This is from my own experience, but I don't know how much labour you can afford to use or have at your disposal etc. I hope my advice is being taken in the right way. After all, you just posed a simple question  Smiley

unlike some i dont have unlimited resources but i have just about brought rare spares out of everything they sell for fc
i do how ever have quite a bit of skill in fabrication and welding (as im an fitter by trade), and it not the first car Ive patched repaired,
i also have friend in the panel/pain industry that will be doing the finish on vehicle

im looking at a 3 layer purple pearl over black base with alpine white (inserts and boot only)

the car will be dead stock other then paint and wheels (current 15" weld wheels) but bigger on the way

As I said it only received a paint job as the balies channel needed repairing,
Before I brought it I striped all the carpet out and was underneath the thing for aroud 1 Hr and it wa the cleanest one underneath that I've seen,
It's still rocking the original trim except for carpet and kickpanels, and it original 70000 miles
And past owner had it for a while as his everyday car up till 10 years ago, the gave it a tidy up 4 years ago

The paint is 2pack but not to my std
I'm not intersted in entering it in elite in any car shows but I do want it turn heads.

The paint job you desire certainly requires that the car is taken to bare metal and my preference has always been to bead blast the difficult areas such as pillars and internal spaces and to hand strip the external flat surfaces, but the 2 pack paint finish on your car may be a bit tougher to get off than original paint. I have had subframes dipped with success, and others on the forum have used this method also, so I would investigate this rather than bead blasting.

12 weeks seems short to me for a ground up resto (even excluding engine and gearbox rebuild). I assume based on your time estimates that you are working on it full time because it is not possible to do the work mentioned in such a short period of time if you are working as well (in my opinion).
The detail and assembly of each piece that goes back takes a long time - front end, rear end, handbrake, exhaust, brakes, steering components, wiring, engine bay components, bumpers, lights, etc etc etc. Even the strip down of the engine accessories, cleaning detailing and painting the engine & gearbox takes hours of time.
