Have replaced the front engine mount on my FE. All went well but noticed on start up and idle a slight vibration/harshness. Would this be normal until the mounting has bedded in?

I don't think this is normal - what is the history of the rear mounts?

Rear mounts were replaced in 1980 but appear to still be in good condition. The new front one was purchased at Rare Spares and can only be fitted the one way. 1980 is a while ago, but the car has only done minimal mileage since then and the rear ones haven't been contaminated with oil.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to what may be causing the harshness, maybe check the exhaust is not binding somewhere. You may have disturbed it when lifting the motor to replace the mount. Could also check the accelerator for the same thing.

Or maybe you were use to that 50 something year old mushy mount?  Grin
