making old chromies fit

  Can anyone help me with some info on fitting 13 x 7 gm chromies onto a 58 fc wagon front without them touching the tie rod and top wishbone when turning?
Any info on an affordable alternative would be appreciated. I would like to keep the standard front end and also use the chromies if possible.  cheers, mark

What I've done in the past is to get some old brake drums and have the centre machined out on a lathe. Then all you do is whack the section you cut out of the drum onto the wheel studs then fit your rim. Depending on the rim, you may have to fit 2 spacers to each side. Just make sure your wheel nuts still go on far enough. I did this and had no troubles at all..

Mind you wheel spacers are illegal unless the car manufacturer fitted them as orinigal equipment.

Mine went thru rego OK. Rego guys did quiery why the studs seemed shorter than normal but they still passed it

longer wheel studs are readily available from good high performance shops

I had a new set of Eagers put on the 'Ol girl a few weeks ago but the front 205's rubbed on the ball joint. The tyre place had spacer plates in stock that alleviated the problem (they looked liked a "universal" sort of item i.e. one size fits all stud patterns )

          I had the same problem just replace you wheel studs with longer studs and go to any tyre and wheel place and buy a set of spacers.They come in different widths from 3mm to 10mm they're about 15 bucks each
