Vacuume Wipers

Any suggestions as to why my wipers would work for about 10mins and then stop? They will then restart after turning them off and giving them a rest period .

I'll be very interested in any answers you get on this one as I have exactly the same problem....

(I'm assuming it's caused by old age in my case  )

Is it possible that the control cable is vibrating backwards over that time, closing the valve in the vacuum motor?

So when they stop can you restart them by turning the knob on the dash?

Alternately it could be the seal inside the motor itself. The paddle that is driven by engine vacuum could be worn and get worse as it heats up through use.

Hi Craig,
No the cable couldn't be loose as its tight to switch on. The internal blade could be the problem i guess. Its not in perfect condition. I will disassemble and see what i find.

If the cable is tight that would be your problem, the cable is only just turning the wipers on and then a little bit of vibration is relaxing the cable and it turns off again. Take the cable out and lubricate it. Lubricate the switch slider as well.

I would check the vacuum hose that connects to the wiper motor. My original hose was partially blocked. I replaced it with another hose, it wasn't strong enough and partially collapsed when the vacuum was applied. The new one has thick walls and works OK.
