Hi Guys,
Any suggestions as to what may cause this to happen? If i lift the gear lever a fraction it stops, seems like maybe its resting down just a little too far.
Cheers,
Graham

Graham

If this has just started happening I would suggest checking the gearbox mounts to see if they have become soft or are torn.

Cheers Wayne

Hi Guys,
Any other suggestions on this issue? I have changed the selector lever rubbers. And still it rattles. Is there a stop inside the steering column that positions the lowest point at which it sits?
Cheers,
Graham

Graham, did you try rocking the engine from side to side, if it moves around it could be soft or torn front or rear engine mounts causing the problem.

I agree with Gary - check the state of the engine mounts. Many years ago (in my first FC) I had the shifter tube break because of a worn mount.

cheers

Graham, I seem to remember a certain "Nasco-Hunter" may have had this issue before his shifter tube broke when leaving the Jindabyne Nats. Check the upper bracket on the shifter tube where the shifter goes onto the column. This is the main spot where they break. They crack first.

My Ute does exactly the same thing, It has had new mounts fitted all round when the vehicle was restored approx 10 years ago (and only travelled approx 4000 mile since). If I recall there are felt bushes around the steering shaft and I am wondering if they are in the correct position on the shaft as mine was rebuilt during the resto and rattled ever since.
