as im not having any luck finding these parts : bonnet, front guards, bumpers front and rear, left hand front door glass and window regulator.
and not having alot of time to fix the ones i have, ive lost some motivation.

The shell is almost complete, but i don't think ill make it for the nats here in tassie.

If anyone has any of these part they want to sell, please let me know.

Nick,

I'm in the process of hunting down parts for both my cars so I'll keep you posted if I come across anything your searching for Wink

I have finally finished the floors YAY  Shocked Shocked Shocked
spent 2 days on it, 80% of the outer sills are also done. i was also lucky to sandblast and reuse the rear lower dogleg sill corner.
Ive used reproduction sills, there is no bend in the middle or ends.
Next problem with the left side rear dogleg is rusted all the way around the arch inside and out and i really dont know how to attack it. Im not a panel man.
I got myself a perfect bonnet, its like new on the underside just rough paint on the top.
i also got 2 front bumpers, both are bad chrome but better then nothing and right and left front doors complete so i have my passenger window, but i think they may have less rust than the ones i have.
Ive started to get stuck into it again, tomorrow ill get the tunnel welded in.
im also thinking of running a straight 6 instead of the commodore v6, i thinking for ease of engineering. get it on the road.
and the good old red motor are cheap as chips these days.

Its a credit to you all the rust repairs not a easy thing to fix.

Tig takes a while but you will find how neat you can go on car panels.
Really sharp tip and use mig wire for filler.
Is it high frequency start or scratch start ?

high frequency DC only, as you said good for car panels. I made the tunnel strengthener with the TIG not real pretty welds but good penetration.

I thought id get all the welding done this weekend, i had two days, but as usual saturday was used up picking up a EH 149 engine for the sump and pickup. The motor "was turning over with the starter motor" I got it home not checking before hand, Its sized, i couldn't get it to turn over and i havent had time to pull it down yet.

My mate also came around and wanted me to help lower his commodore. I handed him a bunch of tools and said call me when you get stuck, well every 5 minutes he was stuck.

I got my chassis strengthening done, cleaned the shed a bit and put the car on its other side.

And this is the las bit of rust in the shell, i hope to get that done next weekend. The wheel arch needs replacing too, the rare spares lower rear replacement part will get rid of most of it.

Nice work Nick. Have you thought about gear box mounts while it is on its side?

Big job Nick, doesn't look like there's much of the original floor left.

only original part left is the shock mount/boot section.
I've started on the left wheel arch, this is a real test for me, i hope it will look like it should when I've finished.

And if i didn't have enough to do, I got 2 of these to build another race car for my daughter and myself to race, the other car is not complete but has a full log booked welded in roll cage, so everything from this one will go into that one.

Hey, if it doesnt look right, make it look fairly right, add something interesting and change your build name to "Another Tassie Custom". I often think with the FE that the guards are so crap that I amy as well have some fun and use a pair of flutes from an air cond and call them custom guards  Cheesy

This thread is a perfect example of how almost anything can be achieved with the right outlook from the beginning and an awesome amount of dedication.I am so pleased to see you persisting as this car was VERY rusty and it is obvious that you think like me as I rarely see anything that looks "too far gone" to be repaired.Well done and keep up the great work.Watching the progress with particular interest.Cheers,Jamie. Cool

Rebuilt inner and outer wheel arch today, This had me worried, I didn't know if I could make it look right. it will need some filler but i think its not too bad.
They use a lot of lead in the joint here.
All thats left is fix the rear corner under the bumper area.

This took me all day, have to wait till next weekend to finish up.
