anodising aluminium

Rang up quite a few platers today (in SA) to get my number plate surrounds re anodised but no luck, all the ones i spoke to said that they use a different process nowdays and they will not come up as shiny. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you get around it, i thought about getting them chromed but not sure how they would turn out.

I had an alloy timing cover chromed and it came up fine. Pity the butt-heads doing the job had to go over my polishing work and left a streak of polish on the cover during chroming!
But anyway, go the chrome! I have heard A-Class (http://www.aclassmetal.com.au/) at Lonsdale and Windsor Electroplaters are quite good.

 :)Hi Mike,
               I cant see how the process is different. They should be able to drop your surround into a solution that strips the old anodising off, a quick re-polish and they anodise it again. By the sounds of it they couldnt be bothered :-/. The only reason they wont come out shiny is if they dont get a high lustre from polishing the item properly. Keep Trying, there will be some one out there.

Try Bowden metal polishers...
Very expensive but very high quality.
