just like to share my pain with like minded people. I am having much pain and grief getting the front ones out. trying impact driver and any other tricks i can. ill drill the bastards out if i have to. i believe i need to walk away from this for a few hours and return to it when i have gained enthusiasm again

Get some WD40 in there (give it a day or two to soak) and use a relatively heavy metal hammer on the impact driver, I have yet to find a screw that won't come out like this.

In addition to the impact driver, use a tang through Phillips head that suits the screws. Hit them as hard as you can with a hammer of approx 2lb (32oz)

The screw drivers that I have in this size have square shafts. I then use a shifter to help turn the screw. It is imperative that the screw driver fits into the screw head snugly. If you have round shaft screw drivers, try vise grips on the shaft (not the handle)

If it doesn't neither the impact driver or this method will work.

You may have to alternate between the impact driver and this method.

Rules

Soak in penetrating fluid. (I prefer Inox or Yield, but each has their own favourite)

Hit as hard as you can with impact driver to assist in loosening.

Try the Phillips screw driver with shifter for leverage.

If you tear the head out of the screw driver then you will have to drill it out. I would not drill it out until I had torn the centre out.

Thanks guys, I really value your help and the forum because I wanted to 'cut sick' on it by bashing crap out of it and was obviously going too gentle. ive nearly got them out but the supercars kept interrupting me.

if you are stripping the car for resto..

I normally heat them up with a MAPP torch, then whack them with an impact driver or screwdriver and club hammer.. ... never fails.

I didnt heat them, but got them out, a lot of whacking etc with impact screwdriver. I ended up oiling the driver and it worked better, was binding a bit. I just imagined the mother in law when I was doing it and they came out much easier that way
