those metal things holding this on, if it a bit u wanna keep (i ripped rest out cos was no good) is it screwed on with a nut or any tricks to this???

As far as I know they are the '50s version of the "christmas tree clips", not sure if there is any particular trick to getting them out though, maybe try some needle-nose pliers and get under the head and try to pull them out by the shaft.

Are these the ones that go through the firewall ?  If so try cleaning the glue / putty stuff from inside the engine bay.

Yep clean the gum from the engine bay side and squeeze together the legs and gently work them out.

I have a lot of these spare if anyone needs them
