Windlace on Front Door

How do you replace the  windlacing attached at the leading edge of the front doors near the kick panel.  Am i correct in assuming that the metal holding it in has to be bent out to to fit new lacing then tapped back into place with a rubber hammer or cloth covered piece of timber?

Gday Keith, I see there is a post on this topic about 13 posts down which suggests that a plastic piping be sewn into the windlace then slid down the channel.   Mike.

That's what my upholsterer did when my interior was done. A small diameter piece of piping was sewn into the windlace at this point which slides down into the recess and then carefully close the recess. Holds it in place nicely.

With mine the upholsterer sewed a pocket in the windlace and i put stainless wire in it, then just tapped it into the slot without opening it up.

Thanks all for the replies.  That give me a few ideas.  I really did not want to open the gap if possible as there is a possibility of the new paint being damaged.

I just jam the tail of the windlace into the gap with a plastic filler spreader from the hardware.
