G'day all One of my boot springs on my FE broke. I have a spare and am trying to make the tool that is described in the workshop manual to fit it. The instructions to fit are just do the opposite of taking it out. By the diagram of the tool it looks like you have to compress the spring to fit it in the tool? Is this right? Any advise most welcome Dave

Dave,
RET used to sell a modified Boot spring post. The way it works is that you remove your existing boot spring post and install the modified post and then wind the spring up. When you have the desired tension, tighten the nut and all going well the boot will now stay up when open.
Try RET, he may still have some.

Yes you do have to compress the spring to fit it in the tool. FE springs are pretty easy to fit, FC on the other hand.............. Ken

Ken, Can the springs be installed without using the special tool ? maybe clamping hard a pair of vice grips both to the end to clip it into place and 1 inside the springs to lock in most of the tension ? Or either make the tool or buy RET's $50 easy bolt design are the only other options ? or is there another way ?? thankx Ken " Have a Great Holden ( FE ) Day !! " FE 4 ME
