My stock wiper arms have bugger-all pressure against the windscreen. Is this normal or are they just past their use-by date?
What's the remedy, new springs. new arms or some other solution?

Alas old age has set in, could be the springs in the arms or the wiper rubbers have gone hard.American Auto Parts have new arms(They are Rare Spares as well). They can be purchased off the web, fairly quick delivery as well.

I dont suppose it could be anything to do with the motor upgrade and some new angles coming into play SGO ,I would guess you would have sussed that one out already

try bending the arms towards the screen a little to stretch the spring and therefore get more tension on them.  Can't hurt - because if it doesn't work you were going to buy new arms anyway!
