Electronic Ignition Issues

Hello was all going well until.... engine stopped. Looks like the ignition wire behind the ignition barrel touched the panel and did not blow the fuse.

The result there is no spark. I have check voltage at the coil and there is 12 volts but when i try to start it goes down to 4 volts and remain there until I turn off and go to start again.

Is there a way to diagnose where the issue is or to isolate coil or dissy?

Is this a Commodore distributor in a red motor or what?

sorry yes red 202 with commodore electronic dissy and coil. It was running great. If it is the dissy is it a known/easy fix?

found a great article http://holdenpaedia.oldholden.com/Bosch_HEI so going to take the dissy out and do some trouble shooting. Sounds like the magnetic coil or the module.

If I understand your description properly you shorted out the 12 volt supply from the ign switch, if this voltage is falling then I suspect the ignition switch.  To test this run a lead from the battery to the coil (ie hot wire it) then start normally.  Also I think you will find along with the headlight circuit there is no fuse on the ignition.

yep my bad. Followed that rticle and now working great. It was the ignition module.
