Hi there Wasim, That's a really cool cruiser. I'm halfway through my project at the moment, and I'm curious as to what mods (if any) you had to do to fit the alloy wheels. Do you have the standard brake drums, or discs, or what? I'm at the crossroads as to what to do with mine. Cheers, Prof.
Hello Prof, no modifications to fit the wheels other than when balanced the 'stick on' weights had to be used as the older type that are pushed between the rim and tyre were rubbing against the tie rod (only very slightly) and I had to modify how the caps were attached to the wheels as on the front they hit the bearing cap covers.. The car has a 179 HP motor mated to the old grey 3 speed box and it has EH front and rear ends fitted with standards EH drums and a VH44 power booster. All seem to works fine. Regards, Wasim.

Thanks Wasim, It looks like I have a problem with my alloy wheels. They are completely flat where they sit against the (standard) brake drums. The drums have 5 large "dimples" sitting proud between the studs. Apparently there should be recesses in the wheels to allow the wheels to sit flush on the drums where the studs come through. My standard steel wheels have this recess, whereas the alloys do not. This will no doubt distort the drums when the nuts are done up tight, and may also damage the wheel centre. Bugger! Back to the drawing board. Cheers, Prof.

Gday Prof....Had the same happen to me....I put a set of mags on my car for a little while, then had to get all the brake drums re-ground as they had warped....so ended up selling the great mags and back to the steelies and whitewalls.

Sounds a bit arrogant but this warping brake drums was common knowledge amongst us car kids back in the 70's . Funny how everything old is new again . Spacer plates are illegal but were factory std. equipment on some LC LJ toranas . Breaking traction is now hooning but was the only way to turn a torana or HQ-WB . Anyway that's enough reflection I"M feeling old.Cheers Haydn

MY PLAN WORKED
Today I took out a 2 year agreement on custom plates - silver on black (what else) 1959FC.
When I got home I announced to the wife what I had done and she uttered the words I wanted to hear - "you better hurry up and get the bloody thing registered" - OK I said, I'm going as quick as I can. I had to look away as the smile on my face was a dead give away.

That's a sweet, sweet looking FC. You've gotta be proud of the finished product. I love the stark contract of the black/white combination , and the 8-ball theme. Have you considered lowering it a fraction more? Cheers, Josh

Don't know why it isn't sitting lower??? Wasim

Well done Wasim. Did it have to go for a roadworthy inspection or an identity check?
cheers Scott

Hi Scott, I had an identity check done first - problem was that the records didn't go back to when the car was last registered even though I gave them the last registration number as a reference? ? So they passed the car! Then it was around the Regency Park for the roadworthy and registration. Regards, Wasim
