Azz, I don't know where you are, but if the guys near you are anything like me, someone close is sure to have a collection of old keys that you would be able to try. Going to the recent Nats, I locked my keys in at Maccas, sure enough, one of my club guys was able to unlock my car.

The only other way is to cut the retaining ring.

Azz, If the car is still keyed alike, you can dismantle the glove box lock & the key number 4 digits will be stamped on the barrel, same as the front door & boot / tailgate locks.

From this number, a larger dedicated locksmith can cut you a new key, failing that, try holding it in the off / lock position with a pair of pliers with cloth to protect from scratches, poke a piece of wire down the small hole while pulling outward pressure on the lock, you don't need to undo the ring around the lock this is done after.

Thanks guys, I should have expanded.........I intend on going for a new lock set all round so just need the guts out of the lock. I'll try a few keys I have lying around, failing that I might just use force  Grin

I had a spare ignition switch lying around  without a key and in the off position- my key wouldn't work either.  Took it to a locksmith and they were able to pull it apart and key to the a key that I have.  They also had some genuine GMH key blanks as well.

I'm too impatient for that Keith, sitting watching tv, crushed the barrel to bits and pulled it all out.

Not a mark on the switch itself  Wink

Force always wins.........
