After the debacle of our January meeting, we have decided to trial a new venue.

Our Feb 11 General Meeting will be held at:

The Sheridan Hotel
Corner Fairfield & McCredie Roads
West Guildford

same time as usual - meeting to start around 8pm.

Why not St Johns Park?
Well basically we can't be assured that the venue will be available even in the medium term.  There are plans for expansion and refurbishment of the club, which could mean we get kicked out again in a couple of month's time until that work got finished.  Also the closing time can vary depending on patronage, and we routinely leave Holroyd Rangers around 11.30, so a "no later than 10pm" curfew was always going to be tight.

Why the Sheridan?
* It's very close to our old location, so anyone who could find Holroyd Rangers will have no trouble finding the Sheridan Hotel.  In turn, we chose Guildford for being central to Metropolitan Sydney.
* The new owners are car-mad, and are negotiating with several other clubs to hold meetings there, and intend to devote one particular part of the bar to this kind of thing.  In time they'd like to put up some pix of the clubs whose meetings they host around the walls and so on.
* They have car-park security from night-fall already, so you can leave you car outside with confidence.  In any case, the meeting room looks out onto the car-park.
* They have basic counter-meals available: burgers and the like, but this will expand into a proper bistro in time (grand plans)
* It's free.
* There has been some suggestion of club sponsorship if we give them the patronage.

One of the other clubs they have been talking to (the HSV Club) have already planned to hold a show and shine there (a la Lockie's).

You'll find other details and a map here: http://www.fefcholden.org.au/nsw/meetings.html

As I said earlier, this will be a trial at first.  So feel free to comment here, and if you haven't been to a meeting for a while, what better chance to catch up with your mates from the club.  See you on the 11th.

cheers

Slim,

Since you bring it up, members will be expected to behave responsibly when it comes to drinking, especially if they're driving.  Nipping out of the meeting because it's your shout for the back row will not be acceptable.  That goes for you Bourbon Brothers, too Grin

It's a trial for a number of reasons, and this is one of them.  I'm not pointing the finger at you Slim, by the way.  Please don't misunderstand.  But meeting in licensed premises has always worried some on the committee that some members may think the meetings are an excuse for a bit of a party.

And it is a school night Wink

cheers

It could be good for the club as it could promote the club. With drinking could it be put in the constations that they are not permitted to drink alchol while the meeting is on and if anyone is caught over indulging in drink before or after can be fined by the club or some kind of punisment that the committee thinks would be approbiate.

It is one thing to Refrain from drinking During the meeting , but before and after is hardly of any one elses concern , and as for fining members for drinking,  It is 2003 and prohibition ended in the 1900s. I think all members can use there own descretion as they do in there every day Lives. But Drink Driving Is definately out. After all were all Adults.

Actually prohibition ended in 1933 Grin

Based on the house-rules of other clubs, this is what you can expect:

1.  Feel free to get a drink before the meeting starts, but once it does members will not be permitted to return to the bar until the meeting's conclusion.

2.  Members are expected to behave responsibly.  Even if you are not driving for some reason, you are still representing the FE-FC Holden Car Club of NSW in public before, during and after the meeting.

I don't think we need to have talk about fines or punishment.  If you get caught over-indulging and driving you can go to gaol.  Surely that's punishment enough Roll Eyes

cheers (so to speak)

Well, we had our meeting at the new venue, and it was excellent.

Great food!  If you didn't come early for dinner, make sure you do next time.  The steaks are great (and only $11 - a bargain!)

When we arrived the tables had been arranged for us, each with little signs on them saying "The Sheridan Hotel welcomes the FC-FE Holden Car Club".  Nice touch.

We agreed we'll definitely continue there for at least another meeting.  Hope to see you there on March 11.

cheers
