How do you remove an engine if you don't have a lifting bracket.
I have had to remove extractors which were one piece from the engine to the tail pipe and the carby mainfiold too.
Do I just put a sling around the engine or is there an attachment point to use a hook??

hi check put the topic in general technical ( broken engine) nelgy has a good lifting device there by the looks of it
depends if you have the material to make one

hi nick.
i have used seatbelt webbing to lift my engines with great success.
a length of about 2m well tied to form a loop/ sling, this is then placed at the front and rear then gathered at the top and attached to engine hoist hook. it is also helpful if you can leave the front manifold bolt in place as this can help keep the webbing from slipping
best part about webbing is it wont scratch any paintwork on block and will lift straight up.

just make sure the webbing cant slip and take it easy.

the other way is with chain. use the first manifold bolt and the bolt hole at bottom rear (drivers side) of block. but again make sure it is all secure and lift gently. the only downside to this method is the engine can have a tendancy to swing a bit.
im sure others here have different methods.
it can also be easier and balanced if the gearbox is still attached, and grill removed but you may have to get some assistance to ensure the rear yoke doesnt jam on the firewall.

Managed with your method Smithy but i used some thick rope.
All out and now stripping engine bay!
