after some ideas to use larger steel 15' rims with commodore stud pattern and still use hub caps. have heard of companys that can cut out or drill out hq rims to do this. or is there any companys that sell undrilled stock rims to start from scratch.

They use to make 15'' outers with a step in to suit the 14'' center ring Keith at Top Tyres and ask him if the still make them as it was a few years back that he made some for me ......FC427......

I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO GET THESE RIMS 15x7 WELD DRAGLITE http://www.wheelboyz.com. if i cant do the hub cap way.

They can do these special order with your bolt pattern and center bore size  {Wheels are all supposed to be Hub Centric not lug centric }American Republic Wheels , Vic  Rocket Industries  NSW , Armidale  Autos  WA are all agents for Weld Racing also Dragway do a copy of these but think you will find them dearer than the weld wheels Huh Huh ......FC427.......

I was in my local tyre shop today and the guy used his stud hole gauge to check the HQ and COMMO rims. They were both the same PCD.
The COMMO has the larger hub hole so should fit HQ but not other way around.

I've heard differing opinions on this subject and maybe using the COMMO rims on HQ is 'dodgy' to some, but I was assured by a tyre guy that it can be done without worries.

Just more food for thought!

Ford - 1/2" UNF studs - 5 Studs - PCD 114.3mm - 68mm from stud to stud

Holden HT / Early Holden - 7/16" UNF studs - 5 Studs - PCD 108mm - 65mm from stud to stud

Holden HQ - 7/16" UNF studs - 5 Studs - PCD 120.6mm - 72mm from stud to stud

Commodore - 7/16" UNF studs - 5 Studs - PCD 120mm - 72mm from stud to stud

Gemini - 7/16" UNF studs - 4 Studs - PCD 100mm - not available in braked kits

Toyota - 7/16" UNF studs - 4 Studs - PCD 114.3mm - not available in braked kits

Well your tyre guy should be kicked up the backside - putting Commo wheels on a HQ is wrong!

The PCD as pointed out by Mark is different. When you tighten a wheel nut in a tapered hole, the stud is literally bent over so that the nut lines up in the wheel. Bend it over enough times and it will break.

The only way I can see it being safe is if the Commo rim has a square shoulder nut and the hole is wide enough for the nut to line up squarely.

I always knew that they were different  Embarrassedthought it was a 1/16" I was wrong  Embarrassed out by 39 tho  ........FC427.......

In any case the maths is irrelevant, all you need to know is that if you fit Commodore to HQ pattern then ultimately you will weaken the studs, causing them to break. When they do break it will be when the geatest amount of load is on the studs, and this will be when you least want them to break.

Another problem is they may not be hub centric and would then rely on the nuts to center the wheel which are in turn having to bend  the studs a little to suit the rim and I don't think that it will end up running true .... Huh Huh ..This is to my way of thinking correct me if I am wrong ...... guess a set of bushes could be made to solve this problem  and them redrill the rotors  to Commodore bolt pattern to make it all spot on ....FC427.......

Thats were I have gone wrong forgot to factor in the difference in stud diameter from 7/16'' to 12mm .....FC427......
