I'd be surprised if thats a realistic figure they are expecting.  If they get it good luck to them but I think the starting price is the maximum I would pay if it was really as clean and straight as it seems.

I remember seeing this wagon on ebay earlier this year ,so either the deal fell through or nobody wants to pay that much .

Just had a good look at the pictures and its not the one I was thinking of unless its been well used since I last saw it a few years back.

An FE wagon in Etna maroon is pretty hard to come by though no matter what condition its in.

I would think 10 -12 k would be more reasonable, but it does look clean, and FE wagons are pretty thin on the ground.

what about the retrimmed rear seat, the back carry area lining is shot, no proper fuel cap, broken steering horn ring, the wholes drilled in the dash next to the ignition, the list goes on.

Ed, a quirk with FE's is the alternate interior paint systems. Some FE's had the front door trims alternating with the paint on the top of the front door while others had the front door trims matching with the paint on the top of the front door.
I'm unsure whether it is a 1957 to 1958 thing or just a different styling feature.

didn't look as closely at all the pictures, I just like Etna wagons.

Doesn't look too beat up to me, although would be interesting to see what price the market dictates.

Ed and Ken,
The internal colour schemes for single tone Elk Blue, and two tone Teal Blue over Elk Blue different FE upper door, top of dash, A pillar, B pillar detail is quite definite, and different.
As I have 2 examples of 1956 cars, both original paint, and I have had a chance to study in detail both a single tone (Elk Blue) and two tone (Teal Blue over Elk Blue) car.
Internally although the colours are the same, the detailing differs.
The upper inner door colour (including around glass) is not Teal Blue, but Pearl Blue (up to 5th December 1957) for both single tone Elk Blue, and two tone Teal Blue over Elk Blue. The outer door colour for both single tone Elk Blue, and two tone Teal Blue over Elk Blue, is Elk Blue. 
On the single tone Elk Blue, the inner B pillar is Elk Blue, on the two tone Teal Blue over Elk Blue, the inner B pillar is Pearl Blue. The outer B pillar colour for both single tone Elk Blue, and two tone Teal Blue over Elk Blue, is Elk Blue.
From the 20th August 1957 (and/or maybe 5th December 1957) when dashtops for all cars were changed to Pewter Grey to minimise road glare, the Pearl Blue may have been deleted, but I suspect not, as this was getting close to model change.
Come to 13th NATS and see for yourself.

Agree with what you have said Geoff. I have owned 2 Etna maroon / Castle Grey sedans. One had grey door frames and the other had maroon door frames. I think the difference came at the change to dark grey dash tops because one of the cars had the dark grey dash top and the other didn't.

Ken probably knows these cars better than any of us, however I had the opportunity to carefully examine either a Castle or Cabot Grey over Anvil or Volcanic Grey FE wagon.

The interior door, A pillar covers and dash top were white/grey, just like this car, except the wagon I looked at was an early one before the grey dash top.

My understanding with FEs is that the single tone cars have a very fine metallic finish matching the darker of the trim colours on the upper doors, A pillars, inner B pillars and dash top. This colour also covers the door frames and is masked off just above the door striker plates. Nev is a single tone Shoreline Beige car and the interior door paint is completely original. My understanding is that two tone FEs have the roof colour on the interior door surfaces as this wagon does. Where it gets confusing is that early FEs have the door shut areas in the lighter of the two colours whilst late FEs have the door shuts in the darker colour and this continued into the FCs. Generally, it appears that the interior paint colours on this wagon could be correct, but.....

Geoff, a small correction to your post. My very early Teal over Elk Blue FE had the interior dark blue in Teal, this covered the internal A pillars, door tops and door frames above the strikers together with the inner B pillars. the difference was that the armrest tops were the lighter interior colour. this changed in 1957. I believe that all single tone FEs had the metallic colour inside. Sometime in 1958(?) the inner doors and tailgate, for wagons, was changed to the darker colour. Graham Fuller's late FE has this.

They are certainly more interesting than FCs Grin

John,
With respect to your 'Teal over Elk Blue FE had the interior dark blue in Teal'.
I believe the darker upper colour you refer to as Teal, would have originally been 'Pearl Blue', that has a metallic look, unless Adelaide did not follow the rule book in 1956. It would be my guess that it has been resprayed to Teal Blue at some stage of its life.
I am aware of the colour swap on the front arm rests, but do have any detail on how/when this happened. Later cars have Summit Blue rests which would be far more servicable than the almost white Cosmos Grey ones (that so easily mark).
With respect to Nev: with a build date around October 1957; Trim Code: 184-473 single colour Shoreline Beige, the darker inner upper door colour (metallic) is 'Saddle Brown', and the dash top 'Charcoal Grey matt (from 21st August 1957), otherwise dashtop is also 'Saddle Brown' (if my estimate of build date is wrong).
