The rails are profile cut to the shape of the underside of the floor. I stitch welded them on utilising a 4 inch weld. They are also butt welded to the front underfloor crossmember and welded and plated at the rear front spring hanger. At the rear they are also capped to seal the top of the rails. Although you cannot see it the kframes are also plated with 3mm plate for strengthening the front end as part of the mod.

It has been a little while since the last update.

I have since fitted a under dash heater assy, radiator, battery cable, and new alloy fuel tank.

I am avoiding the inevitable wiring like the plague. I will eventually ruin out of other things.

Here are some shots of my work so far.

Modified the radiator support brace.


Along with the grill support panel



Also recessed the front subframe and made up lower radiator support mounts whicxh have the original VN commodore rubber mounts






Boot floor removed and modified floor bracing and sheeting fitted waiting for new tank

and here is the new tank all fitted. Thanks goes to a great freind who build this off a set of hand drawn plans. Not bad !!





The two slots at the rear are for white LED lights strips as reversing lights









Enough room to run the exhaust down both sides











Capacity works out around 70 litres or roughly 15 1/2 gallons. May need and extra couple of leaves in the rear

You will see the rear sway bar hanging underneath as well. I am currently chasing a modified sway bar and need to measure and send this one off to get one made.

So there it is for now. I will add some shots of the heater core as well in the next post.

   great build you got going on.... the craftmanship in your welding and fabrication is inspiring to say the least

2 questions please

1. What MIG welder are you using ( looked kinda like a 130 amp in the pic ) ?.... i think i need a MIG welder soon

2. Is that a B&M Megashifter you installed ? if so can you post more pics of that install please ??

Not a B&M Shifter but the parts are interchangeable.

I built mounts onto the tunnel so that it added a bit more strength to the setup.

It has been a little while so here is the update


It has fitted

I ceramic coated the extractors to minimise heat around the starter motor area and engine bay

Battery Box and new fuel tank installed



Running the Starter cable from the boot

Fuel and brakeline plumbing. That was fun 

Fuel Pump Mounting

Through to the engine bay.

Shortened VN Diff and Custom Sway bar. Fulcrum Suspensions in Brissie were very helpful with making up the sway bar. Price was very reasonable.

Bit more colour.

Still toiling away and now thinking of the wiring tasks.

Seats - Embroidery, although not original, is a due to a touch of inspiration from Jack's efforts in white. Thanks Jack. I showed your photos to the upholsterer and he was certainly impressed.
