can any one tell me why on the manifold i have got for the 138 in my fc, has two bakelite (or similar material??) spacers between the manifold and carbs, a bloke who did one up in the seventies said it was an "ole hot rodders trick" to get more torque or something? being 16 i dont really understand what went on in the seventies... but is this a valid statement and should i get another two spacers made, the ones i had crumbled when i toook them off.
any help would be appreciated!

The theory is they stop transfer of heat to the carb and fuel bowl.  also create a longer intake runner length which results in increased intake velocity.

so cooler intake charge and increased intake charge velocity = better chamber filling = more power.

sound good?
