FC Ute ID Plate

Hi, just a newby here and first time post, so here goes.....

I'm think my FC ute might have been resprayed in a different colour to what it was originally and was wondering whether anyone out there could please help me decipher the ID Plate details:

Body: FC 2106-8557M
Trim: S1 770
Paint: 253-5296
Top: S10

It's currently a light green, but I dont think it's an original colour.

Any help much appreciated

Your ute is an ex Army vehicle and would have been khaki green originally. The grille and bumpers would also have been green. Probably was repainted after it was sold from the Army.

Can you supply the chassis number from the skirt in the engine bay please?

These vehicles were prepared by GMH especially for the Army - A pretty rare ute you have there.

Thanks Ken for your prompt reply, sounds quite interesting. I haven't spotted any residual Khaki so must have been a full body respray and makeover, since grill and bumpers are obviously chrome now.

The chassis number is FC 63949M

Still basically a stockie running a grey, but has been lowered slightly and some wider steelies

Just curious and keen to learn - how do you tell from the plate it was army or is it from the paint and trim codes alone?

Dave,

Trim code starts with S1 which is the designated army production code from GMH.
Trim colour (770) is Cordon Brown which was only used for the Services and Post Office vehicles
Paint colour (5296) is Deep Bronze green which was reserved at the time as an army colour by GMH.
S10 is the code which was used for extras added as per contract with the army - these included the painted out chrome, unpolished paint, canvas covered frame fitted to the back (similar to the FB ute featured in the latest TRAX catalogue) and others.

Nice to hear of such an interesting ute still on the road.
Would be cool to see it put back as it left the factory in the DofD livery.
