VL doors

G'day all, anybody out there had any experience removing VL doors, the hinges are welded on looks to me like i have to remove the pin but it's burred over both ends, any suggestions before i get out the angle grinder

I was at the panel beaters when they removed the rear door from my VR commodore. They used a special tool. It consisted of a long flexible cable that was threaded at one end, this was fed through the hole in the pin then another piece was screwed on. The other end had a handle and a slide, the flexible cable was then pulled tight and at a slight angle away from the body. The slide was then pushed towards the handle, the impact caused the pin to move out of the hinge. It works the same as a slide hammer except that the shaft is flexible and relatively light duty.

I have taken this model commodore door off many times & the method & tool used is exactly as described by bob

Thanks Bob, Michael, but the pins on this one have no holes they are just burred over at the ends, one  end has to have the burr removed before they can go anywhere, the angle grinder with a cutting disc can't reach so my other alternative is to cut through the hinges on the body side, the car will be going to the scrap metal bloke anyway as i'm cutting the floor out for my wagon.

Pedro if you are scrapping the VL put the grinder through them ......FC427......

the vl i removed a door from had plastic caps in the tops and bottoms of the pins hope this helps

As above a couple that i've done have dust caps in the pins so might be worth double checking that there not just worn in.

Thanks for the input guys i hadn't noticed your replys, I've been too busy playing with the floor to get back to the door job, went and had another look but this time put some glasses on, you were right all along there are caps in each end, just gotta get a drift and knock them out, that job will have to wait though got some tiles to lay first, thanks again.
