I bought a HR steering setup to fit to the FE and was going to start stripping and rebuilding it when I purchased a complete HR front-end and motor. I noticed that the two sets of steering gear are different, where there two different types?

Here's the one I bought separate, two tie-rod ends on an adjuster tube, where as the other unit looks more like an FE/FC setup  Undecided.

The connecting rod off the HR steering sits about 8 inches away from the back of the cross member with the wheels pointed straight ahead. I believe the steering from the earlier holdens sits in closer to the cross member. This necessitates the use of the EH sump on Red motors into early holdens as the lowest part of the sump, where the oil pick occurs, is at the back of the motor. On the HR the pick up is more towards the middle of the motor.
Hope this helps Bob

Thanks Bob, I have the EH sump fitted, I am just a bit puzzled over the steering gear itself.
Below is an extract from the HR manual which shows the tie-rod at the end of the steering gear, which looks like the "spare" front-end I have, but not like the gear I was going to fit up.
The gear I have seems to have a tie-rod at each end with a long threaded tube in between, I just don't want to fix it up to find I have the wrong gear.
