I could not imagine what some of the victims of these fires are doing to rebuild their lives. I really would not know where to begin, hopefully insurance will cover the monetary loss, the emotional loss, however, will take quite some time to heal.
My thoughts are with all the people that have been affected by the fires and floods

... also, an FC ute......  I guess at the end of the day they are just cars, and they pale significantly in comparison to what some people lost... it's all so destructive though, and still going......  I don't know anything about this one, the photo came through on the wires. She's sporting a black eye now though........ |

I have no clue but I assume for vehicles the heat of a fire would warp most panels and make them more or less useless and only fit for scrap? I know the new cars would melt but I was thinking of "proper" old cars.

I know of a few more very rare and collectable cars being lost in the fires. 1 very low mile XW GTHO, 1 XY GT, 1 HK GTS, and a few more vintage/veteran type of cars, and I don't think I will ever forget the image of the ZC Fairlane that lay in the middle of the road, burnt out, obviously stuck trying to flee the inferno. In that area there was quite a number of car enthusiast's that have been effected.
They will need help in the coming months, not just now, one must wonder what is going to happen to them once all the media, charity frenzy dies off and the next big news event happens, and life returns to normality for us and the rest of the people that were not there.

Unbelievable heat was required to melt glass like this FE-FC windscreen and side window.
Fire authorities are mentioning radiant temperatures around 1200 degrees Celsius.
In a situation like this, it brings home what little chance people had, if they were caught out in the fire.
Very sad.

The photo that Les has posted is hard to take in.
It's impossible to know if this car was a going concern before the bushfire, but it seems likely. It appears to have had a steering wheel, since what looks like the horn contact spring can still be seen. But all the diecast metal (the ignition switch, radio grille and window crank) has simply melted, as has the windscreen, obviously.
It just boggles the mind.

Found another pic of the FC.... and as suggested by Richard, it looks like it was a goer. In this shot you can see where the steering wheel landed after it melted off. A harsh lesson to learn, for anyone else with partially completed projects or cars that are off the road for a while, Shannons has "laid-up" cover at very reduced rates. Keeps your car insured cheaply while you are fixing it up.
