And after you break them you'll need a few more ........Unless it's a standard 186 and you drive very carefully.. They don't tend to last long if you have a heavy foot so be prepaired to change a few g/boxes.. If you chose a smaller engine 149 161 Ci the power and torque will be more suited to the standard g/box remember the standard g/box was designed to cope with only around 60HP and not 100+ HP .........FC427..........

I have a full house 149  Wink and gave it a hit into 2nd once - no more second gear.

With a 186 go the extra effort and mod the floor or find a Toyota 4 speed conversion. They pop up on eBay now and then.

Kiwi,
I have a 100hp grey behind a standard 3 speed and I give it a good squirt every now and then and havn't had any problems. So long as you are not going to race it and it is a good box to start with you shouldn't have any problems.
