Gear Shift Selector Rods

What is the best way to repair the ends of of these rods?  It is the end that has the right angle bend on it. There is some wear on the ends that go into the linkages on the gear box.  As well, is there a preferred method to repair the hole in the linkages and what is the correct clearance between the rod and linkage hole?

Weld up both the shaft and the bracket. Redrill the bracket and grind the shaft to as close to round as you can get. You will need about 1 mm clearance as there has to be a little angled movement ability as well as just turning.

Thanks Ken.  A friend of mime said he could get the shaft round in his milling machine if I weld it up.
