Could anyone help with the correct colour/coating for the scuff plates on a 1959 FC?

Were they originally painted and if so what colour, or were they zinc plated; or something else?

Hi Craig,
The scuff plates were Cad plated not zinc.

it's not original, I know, but they DO look nice in chrome.....nice and shiny!!
