I don't have a date for this one, but it is Northbourne Avenue Canberra outside the Hotel Civic (demolished in the 1980's or thereabouts).

Beenleigh, Qld,  Ambulance

Keith

Thanks for putting these ambo pics up Keith!

I was told when I visited Boonah Ambulance that the plain red glass lens / light on the roof is probably correct for my ambo, but do you think I can find one  Roll Eyes

That pic of the Sydney tram with the old red rattler going over the bridge. Isn't that on the eastern side of the railway just north or south of Central station? Geez I wish I took more notice of things when I was a kid.

Hi Colin,
I think you are in the wrong city  Wink

I reckon that's a Melbourne Tram that has just crossed the Queens Bridge and about to travel under the Flinders St/Spencer St rail link (Spencer St now called Southern Cross.

If you google map this location cnr William st & Queensbridge st, Melbourne that it the location the photo was taken albeit 53 years later. Go into street view & rotate 180 degrees, it now looks like this:

Whereas it was like this:

Back in 1975 I used to work in the 2nd tallest building on the left in the 1959 picture - it was originally the headquarters for the State Electricity Commission of Victoria who I worked for until 1995 when the then Premier Jeff Kennet sold off everything he could so I lost my job as a consequence  Angry

BTW, Tram route 55 still exists and follows the same basic path it did back then:
http://ptv.vic.gov.au/maps-stations-stops/metropolitan-trams/tram/868
Stop 1 at Flinders St is closest (beside the Immigration Museum) - the Immigration Museum is the cream coloured building on the left just above the train line in the 1959 picture (actually used to be Customs House until ~1970).

I love the picture as I remember crossing in front of No 55 Trams on the way to work,

The photo is on flickr and is tagged Camping at Newnes NSW in 1958.
Came across this pic in the same album, tagged Camping at Wheeney Ck, Oct 57.

And this one tagged Merry Beach 1965.

Alex
