Hey all

My car is almost ready for registration. The tyres on the vehicle (including the spare) were virtually brand new when the car was parked. This is about 20 years ago. They now have flat spots. I have decided to purchase new tyres (P185/80 R13 Sumitomo) from Jax Tyres. The question is what to do with the old ones. Normally I would leave them at the tyre place, but since tyres for these older cars are becoming harder to get. Should I keep them? Will the flat spots eventually come out with a little driving? Would someone else on the forum be interested in them if I change my mind on keeping them? They are Goodyear P185/75 R13 Grand Rallys. There are five of them. Outside of the flat spots I don't see any deterioration such as bubbles on the side walls or cracking.

Mike, I would be interested if you decided to sell them.

mate ,
GET RID OF EM!!!!  :'(thouse tyres are bloody dangerous!  Huh :oi remember grand ralley's when they where new and they use to come apart! had em  happen to my fc,not once but twice!! never used em again! apart from that the tyres sitting for 20years would  not do em any good,as the rubber would go hard and be dangerous in the wet.i few years ago i had to change my original tyres of my  low milage /unrestored ht brougham,ok the tyres were 30odd years old ,but because they had gone "hard" made the car ride like a brick,BUT during the annual nsw rego brake test it failed because the car just slid and slid when doing a emergency stop, could not believe it ,only i watched it happen .bought new tyres that day, still own the car only kept the original tyres to put on the car during shows

stay safe

I agree that they are not safe for regular driving use, but do have value as a display tyre or for short slow speed trips.

Thanks for the advice.

Had the new tyres installed today. Very happy with the looks, I like the white walls. Will have to wait to see what they drive like.
