Yes,serious.Just been updated that it was actually called the Graham Lancaster auctions and it was at Flowerdale in Vic (he was going through Bendigo, nothing like stuffing up the facts).Only thing not stuffed up was the price and as mentioned,it went for $10,000.The price guide (expected selling price) was $2250 to $2750 and the sign was about 900mm across (diameter).Pictures of these signs have been posted on the forum before.Cheers,Jamie.

 Shocked Shocked Shocked
That's a lot of $$$
If anyone wants to send me $5000, I will make up a good copy that could be passed off as original.

These are completely different signs, the ones previously discussed are either cast aluminium in the shape of a FE bonnet badge or painted metal ones which are flat. This one most certainly is enamel and I can tell you its the only one I've ever seen. The others are comparatively common - but $10000 - that certainly is a price to write home about.
Enamel signs are VERY collectable and have been bringing big prices for years.
Shannons auctions regularly sell enamel signs advertising oil companies and various older motor vehicle companies and prices in the region of $2000 to $5000 are common. The rarity of this sign must have attracted all the collectors around.

A couple of signs from this auction have been featured as 'Under the Hammer' items on "Collectors", (ABC1, Fridays 8pm).

This one (cast in aluminium and about 4-5' high) went for $2500

A three-piece enamel sign, it went for $6500.

So in that environment, it doesn't sound unlikely for an enamel Holden sign to hit $10K.

Lot of dosh, tho...

cheers
