new engineering process?

I've heard guys in the 4x4 modification arena, mention there are proposed changes to the engineering process set to be implemented in January 2003.

one of the changes is apparently the cost (set to increase)
other changes I do not know anything about?? (does anybody?)

first of all.
Is this true?
will it affect light vehicles as well?

If anybody has any info it would be handy.  I'd hate to think my intended road car, has become my unintended race car.

Hi George,

I read that, had a fright then quickly rang my engineer who told me what is happening in Vic, happened in NSW a while back, although from 1 March 2003 engineering fees are set to be slugged about 1000 bucks extra (NSW)... ouchhhhhhh.

more incentive to get the cars back on the road

havn't read street rodder article yet to find out but what does it all mean? can i still go ahead and modify effie? ie:red motor hr front end etc or should i stick to stock now? or is everything just the same just going to cost me more?
nsw figures sound scarey i hope vic isnt going to go the same way.

in a nutshell.. all regs are the same.

engineers must be approved by your relevant state dept. (would be available on some sort of approved engineers register I would imagine)

costs in various states i'm not sure of... I only know NSW will increase.

nothing to worry about...

i have read the c.r. article now [actually lashed out and bought one].it all sounds very political doesn't it?
havn't spoken to the engineer i will be using yet to see if he is still in favour or not. i hpoe he is.

will have to see if being "on the list" is worth something cost wise. i suppose time will tell.
