You know how the top of the guards and grill have those coarse thread crappy bolts that always strip, you drill them out and fit the nutserts and then they take a normal thread bolt.

Have u eva heard of them falling out. I worry my nuts will come loose and I will loose them on our dodgy dirt tracks here. Have u ever known of people loosing their nutserts? Sometimes I put nuts that occasionally fall off, in the missus's handbag, so I can find them later. She isn't interested in my nuts at all anymore now that I am onto my fifth projects (all on the go at once). I bought a 1956 vintage truck today Pedro. Might have to get my nutserts in quick smart! What thickness bolt do u use, or does that depend on the size of ya nuts? The missus doesn't like thick..............

Did you get the info you wanted from Pete's post Deano, I can give you the size of the ones i used if you want.



Got all the parts ready to take to get rechromed apart from the headlight surrounds which are at the painters, can anyone think of anything i've missed.

The 2 little tail light ones are stainless as well they buff up..

Not sure if it would be less expensive, but Rares now have repro exterior door handles that I have heard are very good, but have not tried myself

Also, be careful where you send the die cast items, as these can easily be stuffed up
Electroplating Technologies in Queanbeyan are a bit exy but specialise in die cast stuff

Internal door handles?  May be just as easier/cheaper to get replacement ones.  Gold Coast Electroplating at Biggera Waters, Gold Coast did mine.  Ask for Kevin.  He did mine.  Very pleased with the results.  PM me if you want further details and I'll give you the information you need and who to see.

Thanks everybody lots of good ideas there so i'll do one at a time, I thought about the steering column bracket but i bought one of those gauge mounts so you won't see it, I'm pretty happy with the silver on the bonnet hinges so i'll cut costs there Wink, i missed the tail light separator bits thanks Pete so i'll grab them back out, I haven't used this chromer before so i'll have to have a chat with him and make sure he grinds out all the corrosion on the die cast stuff properly, not sure on the exterior door handles the new ones are $70 each so i'm waiting to ask how much to rechrome them, I have a huge box of internal door handles i've collected over the years so they aren't a problem and unfortunately Biggera is an hour and a half's drive away whereas  the one at Yamanto is 20 minutes away and they do all types of chroming, I forgot to mention the grill when i asked the question, i had that rechromed about 2 1/2 years ago and at that time i also got a Stinky hoodlining, a full rubber kit and a trim clip kit so that will cut out a big chunk of the costs now, the one we all missed was the interior light holder but i can't run that as when i welded the rust in the pillars i blocked them up  Roll Eyes and now i can't get the wires up there , I'm going to fit four interior lights instead two in the kick panels and two in the rear cargo area where the cardboard covers go, i'm planning on taking it all up tomorrow morning so i'll let you know what the bloke says, thanks again for all your suggestions.

Hijacking the thread here.... What's the best way to care for stuff that's been rechromed then? I noticed my front bar (was done 6 years ago and never seen water) is coming up with rust spots... Angry

Some people use WD spray but i've always used polish, they achieve the same result though it's like the paint on your car the polish doesn't allow the water/moisture to penetrate, but if you don't apply any polish for a long time the paint gets chalky the water gets through and bingo you've got rust.

I would bother upgrading computer is stock so they only get what the computer tells them.
Wouldnt hurt to get them ultrasonic cleaned and new o ring seals but.

Well that writing looks like i was pissed.

Dont text in traffic..
What i meant was i would not upgrade injectors leave them stock as fuel econmy is excellent and their is no real gain unless you put a GTS can or something into the engine..

Same as what i said change the seals in the head and check injector fuel tubes for cracks.
