Hey Fat, I think anything engineering wise depends on the car the engine came from. So if the 179 had collapsable steering then it needs to be in the modified car.

The rules in Vic are that if you change the column to another model, then the column has to meet current ADR's. That is it must be collapsible and have breakaway mounts. If you leave the original column in place then it can remain stock. This is why V8's need collapsible columns because the column is removed and a rack is installed.

You can run a stock column with a red motor in Vic no problems.

Mark is right in NSW any motor over 186 in an FC FE requires chassis rack and pinion steering and collasible steering unless your lucky enough to find an engineer thatl let thru

the ute i bought ek has a 138 red in it so wont have to got to the expense of making a column collasible

191.25 CID is the changeover point, according to NSW registration rules.

If you have a 186 + 40 thou, then you're just under at 190 CID.

If you have a 186 + 60thou, bad luck, at 192 cubes you need the collapsible column.
