Hello all just curious if anyone can tell me if a hd 3 speed  will fit into my fe behind a grey motor and if not why?  cheers!!!

Simple fact of the matter is that the Grey motor gearbox supports the twin rear engine mounts with only a single mount on the front of the engine.
Red motors have the dual mounts on the engine and a single mount at the rear of the gearbox.
Hence if you put a Red box behind a grey engine than you only have 2 mounts on the centre line of the engine / gearbox which is no good.

If you have a look at the recent post of putting a 4 speed behind a grey you will see the extent to which you will have to go to manufacture a bracket to support the grey engine mounts.

Otherwise the box will bolt up to the grey engine no problems.

Not worth the trouble,gear linkages are also different on HD three speed as well as tailshaft lenth and speedo cable.

What about using a EJ bellhousing they have the side mounts like the FC. Some one must have done this conversion before to know if the mounts line up or need modifying HuhHuh?? ........FC427........

Not sure, i think shaft lenths might be different EJ to HD

The EJ box is a one off, the bell housing wont go on a red box
