I am pulling the front off my car in preparation for doing up.  When I took the lefthand front guard off I found these markings in paint on the main body near the firewall.  I guess they are factory markings. Do they mean anything? The car is a 59 and made in Sydney.

Car made in Sydney... Definately Graffiti, look athe the Qantas jets parked too close to the fence...  Tongue Tongue Grin

What are the body number and chassis number for your car and what are the paint colours?  They could be linked to this data.

Hi all,
           Don't really want to go too far off track from the original post but I was looking at one of the Delorean forums, it is very similar to our site, ie plenty of good stuff, pictures, how too's and friendly people answering all sorts of questions regarding Deloreans.

They had one picture section devoted to assembly line writing (scrawling??) that was found behind door panels, under insulation, under the roof lining and just about any spot you could think of that would not normally be seen. No graffiti unfortunately from what I remember, just stuff like codes, letters and numbers that would only mean something to the people on the assembly  line.

Very interesting to the owners of course.

The body ident numbers are:

 Body No FC225 33652-S
 Trim  300-847
 Paint 256-7770
 Ins  253-6258
 Top  ----------

Chassis  FC57635 S

 Engine No L608241

The vehicle is white with black insert
I date it as September 1959.  It has the paper type air cleaner.

I assume they painted the body without the front mudgaurds on the body as there is some white overspray on the outer side of the inner gaurds.  The paint is original and no signs of any body repairs at any stage.

The numbers in question are probably some factory code - just my guess.

The first thing that jumps out at me is 12 9 - the 12th of September Roll Eyes
This ties up with your date of September manufacture
The SC B - maybe means Subframe Colour Black - Possible that this car is near the changeover where the Entire engine bay was painted black - does your car have all black engine bay?

Just leave it alone is probably the best way to preserve it - it has been there for 50 years and still good so I would think it will last a fair while longer. Obviously if you are going to repaint this area then keeping the markings will be difficult without leaving some sort of odd unpainted area.

Keith, If you are restoring the car, so long as you have documented / photographed the marks, & perhaps keep them with the car along with any other pics of the resto that should be good enough.

I recall when restoring my FE going to the trouble of "recreating" factory check dabs of paint that were removed or covered over in order to repaint the car, these were on the drive shaft, steering box, pitman arm, diff etc.
