Guys,

I just sent my entry off for WSID 2.12.07, so keen to see who else is entered?

I'm pretty confident the car is sorted now and me being a drag racing virgin should make it interesting.

I've done a fair bit or track riding but not this.

Ed what ET's do you think your car will run???How many rear wheel horse power does the wagon make Huh? will be looking out for your wagon on the day My mate is not racing so I don't have to crew so will be spectator, Always a great day at The Nostalgia Drags no matter what number you run  FC427

Hi Mark,

I reckon the wagon is SLOOOOWWW....
15 secs (more??) i really dont know.
I took out the stally when i put the T700R4 in and it lost any hit it had, but the better ratio of the box (over the Th400) makes it a nicer street car.
Only running 3.25 gears too, a better set of gears would be nice.
no dyno figures since the "new" motor went in but its a stock 304 bottom end, so again nothing spectacular.

sounds grim but im used to riding litre bikes so any car feels slow.

im interested to see how it goes and have some fun.

Hey Shane,
Had a great day.  Thanks to Alex and John for showing me where to go and what to do on arrival, that eased me in for a day of fun.
Consistent 15.8s all day, with a poor reaction time of 0.8.   I always thought driving a car in a straight line should be easy??? Perhaps leaving on the 3rd amber will get me off the line quicker.

The car hung together although the gearbox didn’t want to change gears… very frustrating bouncing off the limiter between gears… what’s an auto box good for?

all up a fun day out.

Hi Ed did you think it would be faster than it was Huh? I thought a V8 in a FC would have run in the low 14 second range  FC427

Hey Ed,great to see you got out there and had a go.I think your times are right on the money given your convertor/diff ratios etc.My VH commy,running a very basic 308/355 stroker  (stock intake/heads/exhaust and mild cam)ran a flat 16 on my first pass with a 1.1 second reaction time (fast asleep) and over 2 second 60 foot time (massive wheel spin) and only came down to 13.38 once I dropped the exhaust.The biggest problem is that you have to make a decision of whether you want a cool cruiser that is nice to drive on long runs or a beast that tears up the strip.You GENERALLY can't have both.Although the turbo guys are making a mockery of this ideal.I doubt that you are,but I certainly wouldn't be too concerned about your times.The main thing about nostalgia drags for most is having fun.Cheers,Jamie. Hey Mark,

i thought the wagon was slowww and this i guess confirms it, but i was hoping to get into the 14's.

Low 14's are easily doable if i change a couple of things and improve my reaction time.
Diff ratio, stall convertor are probably the easiest and "cheapest".

Down the track a 355 stroker bottom end has always been on the cards.
Currently running a low comp 8.4:1 304 bottom end.

the yellow panel van with 308 9.5:1 comp, similar diff ratio and TH400 broke out a 12.7 with reaction time of approx 0.4s.

so 14's should be acheivable tweaking the current set up.

the wagon is really set up as a cruise car BUT trying to go faster is always fun.

reaction time has nothing to do with yor ET
i thought yor ET's would of been better, but you were out there useing yor car and i assume enjoying it and that's what counts
a mate used to have a LJ torana with a wrecking yard 308 in it and it was good for low 14's a bit more aerodynamic but not alot of weight difference

i forgot to mention.

the gearbox wouldnt change gears on the day.

1-2  and 2-3 changes just wouldnt budge either manually or auto.
had to back right off to let it change. the motor would bounce off the limiter rather than change.

it may count for some lost time??

Ed from what ive heard the th700 is not a drag box, they arent my cup of tea but i bet you will enjoy the th 700 going to mt gambier, it must ride pretty easy on the freeway now.
 but anyway, do you think the bug bit, are you thinking of what to treak next before you go racing again, i started with a 18.7 the first night and after a few more meets and a couple of grand i got 17.0 but that was still to slow so i had to start again. i had my car set up for the freeway then with a 2.78 diff and a sloppy worn speco centreshift, i never got to shift into 3rd becuase the track was too short.

hey Ed,

I used to buy a mag called 'Bracket Racing USA' I'm sure googling around would find you all the great tips that used to be in this mgazine to simply and cheaply cut your times, ditch the spare and jack, muck around with tyre pressures, set of slapper bars etc... you'd be surprised how easily you could lop a second off that time.

Leon,

ive spoken with the guy who built the box and he reckons muking round with the governer springs will get the shift points right.  He also warns there is no set rule for determingin which springs will work right.

the car drives very nicely on the road and freeway.

im easily bitten by bugs...

The car was loaded with heaps of dead weight on the day, all i wanted to do was drive thru the gate and onto the strip... and i did!
