Matching manifold to ported head

I have an old superflow head which is in at the moment being rebuilt with stainless inserts and valves etc. Has anyone had experience with matching the manifold to the head ports? It's an alloy inlet manifold (with 2 barrel holley) so I assume it would be fairly straight forward, but a bit worreid it may also be easy to stuff it up.

Last time I did it (years and years ago) I matched the gasket to the head, then used the gasket as a template. Make sure it is the right way around, then scribe or texta the shape on to the manifold and start grinding and filing.
It's better to be a little undersize and have a "step down" to the head than to have the manifold oversize and there be a "step up" as it will disturb the airflow.

i agree with stinky i used the gasket as a template just remember to angle up into the ports because they get a bit thin as you head in

Thanks for the replies folks. I have been put on to a local bloke who will match it and fit guides so therels no guessing (as with the manifold sitting on the studs) for about $120. Figured it wasn't worth stuffing around myself for that sort of money.

I've port matched a few heads at home here and there and $120 is cheap considering the time it took me to do it
