So, I want to know the real reason the drivers door doesn't have a lock in it.
Have many of you put one in anyway?
Paul.

Hi Paul, I have put one in my Ute. It was a real pain having to open the car from the passenger side all the time.
It is really easy to do. The lock is interchangable for either side door. I bought one, (try and get the backing plate at the same time) and for less than $10.00 got it "keyed alike" with the ignition key.
The hardest part was making sure it was in the correct position before drilling the hole in the door.

It was so you could open the door for your lady, by the time you got to the other side, she would have unlocked it for you.
Another reason may be safety, slide across the bench instead of opening on a busy road

I think fitting a keyless locking system to the door is one good idea.
I think I heard about it on this site some time ago.
Aftermarket systems are not to expensive.

keyless entry would be ideal.
just fit a remote central locking solenoid to the driver side lock pull.
ive got keyless entry on the wagon.
Cheers

from what an old timmer told me was they were fitted only on the commerical cars so when utes and van were parked in busy areas the traffic would not have to stop for the delivery guy to unlock and open his door.

It used to be illegal to get into or out of a car on the traffic side. Like jay-walking, rarely enforced.
When you bought a Special you at least got the luxury of unlocking and getting into the driver's side if you were parked in your own driveway...
cheers
