I dont believe starters were ever Orange on Grey engines ,either 6V or 12V ,if you have one it was probably from a commercial engine ,for example in a compressor , cement mixer etc ..if you have one clean some of the orange off to reveal black ..or look on the underside where it was probably sprayed in situ for where orange meets black .In our museum we had a Broomwade Compressor with a grey engine ( EJ ) all painted yellow ....Vern ..

Hi Thanks for the info.
When I checked a site advising colors Bosch was not mentioned as Orange but he FJ I have is fully original and starter is Orange so wanted to maintain it. If consensus is it should not be orange I'll change and paint in original color as per Bosch specs.

FJs had the starter motor, distributor body, generator and voltage regulator cover painted orange, and the wiring harness was wrapped in orange tape.

G'Day Rob,
Thanks for this it looks like it aligns with image I have of an FJ Engine bay.
How do I load an image onto this page?

Vern,

You may have solved a mystery for me, I acquired an EJ grey motor painted yellow some time ago!

I thought it was a Yella Terra job but the head work says stock
